Deşi nu prea îmi place să abordez subiecte prea sensibile sau controversate, am un talent înnăscut de a-mi spune părerea atunci când nu mi-o cere nimeni. La urma urmei cine spune că trebuie să vorbeşti doar când eşti întrebat? Îmi stau pe limbă o grămadă de păreri despre subiectul acesta însă mă voi abţine să le dezvolt prea tare. Rezumatul este că mi se pare o mega inconştienţă născutul acasă, neasistată de medici (care deşi m-au dezamăgit de multe ori, ştiu totuşi să salveze vieţi, au şi cunoştinţe şi aparatură, cel puţin în situatii de urgenţă şi cu diagnostic mai mult decât evident).

Later edit: Şi mai ales nu pot să cred că sunt femei care nasc încă acasă deşi s-a întâmplat deja asta. Cât de zen mai este acum situaţia celor doi copii rămaşi fără mamă?

Apropo de dorinţa oamenilor de a se împotrivi evoluţiei medicale, episodul din Family Guy pe care l-am văzut în seara asta mi s-a părut că vorbeşte pentru mine, aşa că vă las cu replici din el. Ce coincidenţă să văd episodul acesta fix în ziua în care a vuit internetul de păreri despre subiectul acela.

Doctor: Mrs. Griffin, it’s a good thing you brought this child in.

Lois: Why? Is he okay?

Doctor: I’m afraid he’s very sick. In fact, his lab-work shows he is suffering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Lois: Oh, my God! Are you saying Scotty has cancer?!

Doctor: I don’t know, I didn’t read the whole Wikipedia entry, but the good news is that what he has is highly treatable with radiation first, and if necessary, chemotherapy.

Lois: Oh, for God’s sake.

Doctor: Look, do you have any idea how expensive medical school is?

Lois: No, I don’t. Well, it’s probably pretty expensive.

Mama copilului: Lois! We came as soon as we got your call.

Lois: Oh, Hope, Ben, I’m so sorry to have to tell you this, but Scotty has…

Mama copilului: Cancer. We know.

Lois: You do?

Mama copilului: Yes, we’re aware of his condition. But you shouldn’t have brought him to the hospital without talking to us first.

Lois: Why wouldn’t we bring him? He was unconscious. He clearly needed treatment.

Mama copilului: Oh, no, he doesn’t receive treatment.

Lois: What?!

Mama copilului: We’re Christian Scientists. We don’t accept medical care for ourselves, and we don’t permit it for our children.

Lois: But your son has cancer! Don’t you understand? Scotty needs help.

Mama copilului:  And he’ll get it… through faith. That’s right. We will heal him with the power of prayer.

Lois (către doctor): Y-You can’t just let them just walk out of here!

Lois (povesteşte acasă familiei): And they said because of their faith, they don’t believe in medicine.

Meg: Mom, I think there’s a lot of religions that do that.

Lois: Well, that may be, Meg, but that poor little baby has cancer, and they’re just gonna take him home and pray over him?!!

Meg: Well, that’s what they do. They believe that disease is just an illusion. And the only way to fight it is to make your faith stronger.

Lois: Peter, I have to go talk to the Jennings and ask them to reconsider getting treatment for Scotty.

Peter: I’m going with you, Lois.

Lois (către Brian, după ce revine de la familia respectivă): They’re obviously very committed to their beliefs. But their beliefs are crazy, Brian. I don’t know who’s crazier – these people or those Seventh-Day Adventists.

Joe (poliţistul): I know it’s frustrating, Lois, but the fact is, there are no laws that say those people have to take their child to the doctor.

Lois: How can that be? Children are citizens, too. They should have rights.

Joe: Well, it’s a tricky area, Lois. You could file a suit, but that could take months, and even then, there’s no guarantee the court wouldn’t support the parents’ right to practice their religion.

Lois: How could we live in a country that would allow a sick child to die?

Lois: I know you don’t believe in modern medicine, but you do believe in the power of prayer.

Părinţii: That’s right.

Lois: And through the years, when there was disease or infection, people of good faith would pray to God for a cure.

Părinţii: Yes. It’s what we do.

Lois: Well, then isn’t it possible that penicillin, vaccines and antibiotics are all actually answered prayers? And isn’t it possible that the amazing men and women of medicine who brought about these miracles could be the instruments of God’s answers to our prayers. Look, I believe life is sacred. And I know you want Scotty to live a full life. And if that’s true, then I think it’s wrong for you to ignore what very well could be the Lord’s will. I mean, what’s the point in praying to God if you’re just going to wipe your butt with his answers? (ca în bancul ăla cu omul care se îneacă şi ajunge în Rai şi îi zice lui Dumnezeu că a aşteptat un ajutor de la el şi Dumnezeu îi zice că i-ar trimis o barcă, salvamari, ce vină are el că i-a refuzat pe toţi).  Hope, Ben, please let God answer your prayers. Please let your son get help. 

Părinţii: Well, I guess through the Lord’s will, anything is possible. All right, Lois. Scotty can have his treatment. Oh, thank you!

Lois: Thank you, and God bless you both!

Ai crede că numai în desene animate există oameni cu minţi atât de înguste. În schimb văd că DOAR în desene animate e posibil că minţile înguste să se mai lărgească puţin.
